A work colleague who became a long term friend

Created by Ronald 3 years ago

I joined Edison Halo Lighting in 1973 as engineering manager and Doug joined on '74 as sales manager. We hit it off straight away. I like to think that the great success of this formative company over the following years was, in part, down to the synergy we had developed. We socialised with Doug and Barbara during this time, enjoying many happy weekends together and that strong relationship continued when Doug left the company around six years later. Doug, was, without doubt the most positive thinking person I have met. In the business sense Doug believed in hard work but that this need not be dull. If you could have some fun along the way, this was a free bonus. His positive outlook was infectious and was certainly a contributor to his business success. With our working lives then taking us each to different parts of the country our contact became infrequent, but revived when I retired in 2006. Coincidentally,  Doug's was the first call I received.

On Monday 27th February around 9:40 he called me, it went:-

Hi Ron how's it going?

Great

Are you retired yet?

Yes

Are you enjoying it ?

Fantastic

How long have you been retired?

Around 40 minutes ----- we both had a good laugh
