Salad Days

Created by Sarah 3 years ago

As a child, a lot of my days were spent in the company of Doug & Barbara.  Many weekends were set aside along with couple of decks of playing cards and Canasta was the order of the evening.

Through the years, mainly the 70s and 80s, we had many amazing holidays together. Three or four families, sometimes up to 16 people travelling abroad.  There was always someone to play with and always an adult to take care of you. Me being the youngest, so that was me most of the time.

The beaches used to be packed and if the kids were off in the sea, we were aways told that if the tide takes us along a bit and we couldn't find where the families were on the beach, to always look out for Doug's chocolate brown Fullers umbrella.  It worked.

I remember various parties back in the 70s. One that stands out the most, was when Doug covered the walls in aluminium foil and set up some his rotating coloured floor lights. This was obviously the best thing I'd seen since sliced bread, and the party went down a storm.

Doug, you were the life and soul. You'll always be Uncle Doug and you'll always be my godfather.

Lots of love
